Jamshedpur : A deep depression over the Northwest Bay of Bengal, off the West Bengal–Bangladesh coasts, is expected to impact Jharkhand ‘s weather in the next 24- hours or so.
The system, which intensified from a depression was centered near latitude 21.3°N and longitude 88.5°E.
It lay approximately 60 km southeast of Sagar Island, 110 Km east-southeast of Digha, 160 Km east of Balasore, and 180 Km from both Mongla and Khepupara in Bangladesh. Moving northwards at 20 Kmph, the deep depression is expected to bring significant weather disturbances along the coastal regions.
In association with the system, thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds with speeds reaching 30–40 Kmph are likely to occur at isolated places across the state on May 30.
The IMD has advised the public and local authorities to remain alert and take precautionary measures, especially in vulnerable areas.
Additionally, a trough extending from southeast Rajasthan to the depression’s center—passing through north Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal—at an altitude of 0.9 km above mean sea level is further contributing to atmospheric instability.
Authorities have deployed emergency teams and are closely monitoring the situation, with warnings in place for potential heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and local disruptions.
