Jamshedpur: Tatanagar Railway Police (GRP) have busted a major theft racket by arresting 37-year-old Ajmer alias Kalia, a resident of Shani Bazaar Road, Sultanpuri, Delhi.
The accused used to target passengers on trains and steal valuable items, including mobile phones. Investigations revealed that he often used sedatives to make passengers unconscious before robbing them.
Ajmer alias Kalia was found loitering suspiciously at Tatanagar railway station when the GRP stopped him for questioning.
During a search, police recovered a fake Aadhaar Card and suspicious drugs from his possession, leading to his immediate arrest.
According to the GRP, the accused had previously been captured on CCTV cameras and has a criminal record involving multiple theft cases across various states.
He has also served time in prison for similar offenses.
Currently, police are interrogating him and believe that his arrest could help solve several other theft cases.
The railway police have also issued an advisory urging passengers to remain vigilant during travel and to avoid accepting food or drinks from strangers.
