UditVani, Jamshedpur: The ambitious redevelopment of Tatanagar Railway Station has gained momentum, with formal land measurement work beginning on Thursday across the station premises and adjoining areas.
During the survey, officials also identified several encroached portions, which are likely to be cleared in the next phase of the project.
According to railway authorities, the station is being transformed at an estimated cost of Rs 284 crore.
The project includes the construction of a state-of-the-art three-storey building near the second entry point.
Plans for five additional platforms are also in the final stage, aimed at significantly expanding passenger capacity and improving operational efficiency.
Last month, the project was formally launched with a bhoomi pujan ceremony attended by Railway General Manager A.K. Mishra, Chakradharpur DRM Arun Huriya, and Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto.
Currently classified as an A-category station, Tatanagar is set to be upgraded to the A-Plus category upon completion of the redevelopment.
The upgraded station will feature enhanced passenger amenities, smoother traffic movement, improved safety measures, and modern infrastructure.
Given the rising footfall, increasing load of long-distance trains, and future requirements of the region, the project is being viewed as a major infrastructural boost for the city.
