
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel Noamundi celebrated a landmark moment today as it completed 100 years of mining excellence, hosting a grand Centenary Year Celebration that brought together senior leadership, current and former employees, and union representatives.
The event honoured a century of pioneering mining practices, technological innovation, and deep-rooted community development.
The programme opened with the screening of an audio-visual feature titled “Reliving 100 Years: Saga of Noamundi”, tracing the transformation of Noamundi from its formative years to its present stature as one of India’s most advanced and sustainable mining units.
Welcoming the gathering, Atul Bhatnagar, General Manager, Ore Mines & Quarries (OMQ), highlighted Noamundi’s evolution into a model mining site built on innovation, safety, sustainability, and people-centric values. He acknowledged the generations of employees whose dedication has shaped Noamundi’s remarkable journey.
A nostalgic segment, “Pages from the Past”, featured rich recollections from present and former leaders. D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services (and former Vice President, Raw Materials), shared memorable experiences and milestone moments from his tenure at Noamundi. Former leaders A. M. Mishra and A. D. Baijal also revisited defining chapters of Noamundi’s history, celebrating the people and culture that built its legacy.
A key highlight was the joint release of the commemorative souvenir and the Centenary Coffee Table Book by T. V. Narendran, CEO & MD, along with Sandeep Kumar, Vice President, Raw Materials, the Vice President, Corporate Services, and the GM, OMQ.
The Coffee Table Book presents a rich visual and narrative chronicle of Noamundi’s 100-year journey, featuring archival photographs, milestone events, and stories capturing the evolution of one of Tata Steel’s most iconic mining operations. The release underscored Tata Steel’s enduring commitment to honouring its heritage while charting future aspirations.
In the segment “Deep Roots, Diverse Stories: Mining Tales from Employees”, employees shared personal narratives and learnings that reflected the resilience, spirit, and culture that define Tata Steel Noamundi.
Addressing the gathering, the Vice President, Raw Materials, acknowledged the strong leadership legacy and collective contributions of the workforce that have made Noamundi an industry benchmark in mining excellence.
In his remarks, the CEO & MD emphasised the importance of the centenary milestone, noting Noamundi’s vital role in powering Tata Steel’s growth. He highlighted how the mining unit has consistently set new standards in responsible mining, sustainability, and community engagement.
The Centenary Celebration stands as a tribute to the generations of people who built Noamundi -transforming it from its beginnings in 1925 into one of India’s most technologically advanced, sustainable, and socially responsible mining operations today.
