UditVani Joda, December 7, 2024: Tata Steel’s mines emerged as standout performers, clinching 38 awards at the pre-final day function of the 42nd Annual Mines Safety Week-2024. The event, held under the auspices of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Bhubaneswar Region – 1, celebrated excellence in safety and operational practices on Saturday.
Top Performers in Safety Standards
In the A-1 category, Joda East Iron Mine, Katamati Iron Mine, and Joda West each won four awards for their exemplary adherence to safety protocols. Khondbond Iron Mine followed closely, earning three accolades for its operational and safety practices.
In the A-4 and A-5 categories, Tiringapahad, Kamarda, and Saruabil mines claimed six awards each, while Bamebari Mine added four prizes to the tally.
Highlights include Joda East Iron Mine winning the 1st prize in Electrical Maintenance, and Katamati and Khondbond Mines securing the 1st and 2nd prizes in General Working, respectively.
Dignitaries and Celebrations
Krishnendu Mondal, Director of Mines Safety (DMS), Bhubaneswar Region – 1, graced the event as the chief guest. Prominent industry leaders, including Joydev Chattopadhyay (SAIL), Pramod Kumar Patra (JSP), DN Parida (Kashvi International), and Ramshankar Sharma (JSW), were also present. Representing Tata Steel were Atul Kumar Bhatnagar (GM, OMQ), Rajesh Kumar (Chief, Joda), G V Satyanarayan (Chief, Khondbond), D Vijayendra (Chief, Noamundi), and Awnish Kumar (Chief, Mine Planning, Noamundi), alongside Union representatives.
Event Highlights
The ceremony recognized a total of 192 prizes distributed across 63 mines within the Bhubaneswar Region – 1. Ahead of the awards distribution, engaging activities such as quiz and first-aid competitions were held. The event also featured vibrant dance and cultural performances by local troupes.
