
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel’s Manganese Group of Mines (MGM) has secured the Gold Award at the 11th FICCI Awards for Excellence in Safety Systems, reaffirming its leadership in safe and sustainable mining practices. The recognition celebrates the group’s proactive and continuous improvement in safety across its operations in the Joda region of Odisha’s Keonjhar district.
The award was received on behalf of Tata Steel by Shambhu Nath Jha, Chief, Mines (FAMD), and Santosha Kumar Rout, Senior Area Manager, Safety, Mines (FAMD). The honours were presented by Sandeep Sadanand Kumbhar, Technical Advisor (Boiler) and Secretary, Central Boilers Board, DPIIT, in the presence of Alok Mishra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment and Director General, FASLI.
MGM, operating under Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys and Minerals Division (FAMD), comprises the Joda West, Khondbond, Bamebari, and Tiringpahar Manganese Mines — all fully mechanized opencast sites supplying critical manganese ore to the company’s ferro-alloy plants and other industries.
The award underscores Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainable mining and its “Zero Harm” vision. The company’s safety framework integrates leadership-driven initiatives, technology adoption, structured processes, and active workforce participation, ensuring safety remains a core value embedded in every aspect of its mining operations.
