
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys Plant (FAP) at Gopalpur has taken a significant step towards sustainable operations by switching its fuel source from furnace oil to Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
The move is aimed at ensuring cleaner combustion, reducing environmental impact, and providing better process control at the facility.
Company officials said that apart from environmental benefits, the transition to PNG will also help optimize costs and improve overall operational performance at the plant.
Notably, Tata Steel’s Ferro Alloys & Minerals Division (FAMD) had earlier implemented a similar initiative at its Ferro Alloys Plant in Jajpur district, Odisha.
The inaugural event at FAP Gopalpur was attended by senior officials of Tata Steel, including B.D. Nanda, Chief (Operations – Ferro Alloys Plants), FAMD; Kishore Baran Maity, Head, FAP Gopalpur; Atla Rambabu, Head, Safety (FAP and FPC), FAMD, along with other senior executives.
