UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Fire & Security Training Centre of Tata Steel’s Security Department successfully conducted a four-day Emergency Responders Team (ERT) Train-the-Trainer programme from January 13 to January 16.
The programme aimed at strengthening in-house emergency response capabilities across Tata Steel locations.
The inaugural session was graced by Arvind Sinha, Chief Security, Fire & Brand Protection, Surya Bhushan Sinha Head – Process Safety, and Deeba Ahmad, Chief HRBP – Corporate Functions, highlighting the organisation’s leadership commitment towards building robust emergency preparedness and response systems.
The programme was attended by twelve participants drawn from five Tata Steel locations, representing diverse functions. The key objective was to develop a pool of master trainers capable of independently conducting ERT trainings and further enhancing emergency preparedness at their respective locations.
The comprehensive training curriculum focused on critical emergency response capabilities, including Basic Life Support (BLS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Medical First Response covering first aid and soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries, fire management, and gas and chemical emergency response. The sessions were delivered through a structured blend of classroom learning, demonstrations, and extensive hands-on practical exercises.
The programme featured expert sessions by Subject Matter Experts, including Paras Goyel Head – Tata Steel Management Development Centre (TMDC) for delivery and presentation skills, medical professionals for Medical First Response, Tata Steel Adventure Foundation doctor for BLS and CPR, a Gas Safety expert, along with valuable inputs from the Learning & Development team and experienced Fire Crew members.
Participants were evaluated through a comprehensive assessment framework comprising syndicate presentations to assess facilitation skills, a written assessment, and evaluation of practical demonstrations to ensure readiness for delivering ERT training independently.
The valedictory session was attended by the Chief Security, Fire & Brand Protection and Jaya Singh Panda Chief – Leadership and Development, who encouraged participants to cascade the learnings across locations and contribute to strengthening Tata Steel’s emergency response capability.
This initiative reflects Tata Steel’s continued commitment to building internal capability, strengthening emergency response systems, and fostering a proactive safety culture across all operating locations.
