UditVani, Jamshedpur : Tata Steel marks a decade of MOSAIC, its flagship Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiative, launched in 2015 to embed inclusion into the company’s culture and operations.
This milestone, coinciding with Pride Month, underscores the company’s long-term commitment to building an equitable and empowering workplace.
Rooted in five strategic pillars — Recruitment, Sensitisation, Retention & Development, Infrastructure, and Celebration — MOSAIC champions the needs of women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, persons with disabilities, and Affirmative Action groups.
“At Tata Steel, diversity is more than a metric — it’s a mindset. As we celebrate ten years of MOSAIC, we reaffirm our purpose-driven approach to inclusion and equity,” said Atrayee Sanyal, Chief People Officer, Tata Steel.
Over the years, several landmark programmes have emerged from MOSAIC:
* Women of Mettle scholarship (2017)
* Women@Mines (2019)
* Queerious case study competition
* Onboarding of transgender HEMM operators (2021)
* Ananta Quest for students with disabilities (2023)
* India’s first all-women mining shift at Noamundi (2024)
Tata Steel aims for 20% workforce diversity by 2028, supported by progressive policies such as gender-neutral parental leave, support for gender transition, and equal benefits for LGBTQIA+ partners.
Globally recognised, Tata Steel was named a DEI Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum in 2023—the only Indian firm on the list—and a Gold Employer by IWEI for four consecutive years.
Through MOSAIC, Tata Steel continues to challenge stereotypes, promote equity, and foster a culture where everyone can thrive.
