UditVani, Jamshedpur: Born in Sakchi in 1907 as the Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO), Tata Steel on Tuesday will mark its 119th Foundation Day, celebrating over a century of resilience, innovation, and nation-building.
The brainchild of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the plant was envisioned at a time when many doubted India’s industrial potential. From those modest beginnings, Tata Steel has grown into a global leader, balancing business excellence with a deep commitment to society and the environment.
True to Jamsetji Tata’s belief that “the community is the very purpose of business”, the company has consistently invested in social development. In FY 2024-25 alone, its CSR programmes touched the lives of over 5.7 million people across India.
Tata Steel has also been at the forefront of innovation—whether pioneering labour welfare and urban planning in the early 20th century, or commissioning India’s largest blast furnace at Kalinganagar in 2024-25. It is also advancing low-emission steelmaking with electric arc furnaces coming up in Ludhiana and Port Talbot (UK).
With a pledge to achieve net zero emissions by 2045, Tata Steel continues to invest in renewable energy, digital transformation, circular economy initiatives, and green logistics.
As it steps into its 120th year, Tata Steel is not just producing steel—it is forging solutions for a sustainable future, where industry, people, and the planet grow together.
