UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a major infrastructure push, Indian Railways has given the green signal to commence work on the Sultanganj–Katoria rail line — a project that promises to make travel smoother and faster for millions of Shiva devotees from Bhagalpur, Deoghar, and across the country.
Spanning 74.8 kilometres, the proposed line will pass through Asarganj, Tarapur, and Belhar, with key stations at Sultanganj, Katoria, Asarganj, Tarapur, Belhar, Srinagar, and Suyabthan. Katoria will be developed as a junction station, connecting the new route with the existing Banka–Jasidih line.
Once completed, this project will bring immense relief to devotees, particularly Kanwariyas, who undertake the annual journey carrying holy water to the revered Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar.
With a projected cost of ₹1,261 crore, the new line will cut the current travel distance between Sultanganj and Deoghar from 131 km to nearly 101 km, drastically improving connectivity and reducing travel time.
Beyond its spiritual significance, the rail line is expected to spur regional development, enhance mobility, and strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the region.
