Jamshedpur: Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are expected to impact Jharkhand over the next few days as pre-monsoon weather activity intensifies, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Forecast Details:
May 3: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated places across the state. In north-western districts, winds may be slightly lighter, around 40–50 kmph.
May 4: Similar weather conditions are expected, with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph over most areas, except the north-west.
May 5: Thunderstorm activity is expected to ease slightly, with winds of 30–40 kmph, mainly affecting central and southern Jharkhand.
May 6: Thunderstorms will shift focus toward the north-eastern and south-eastern districts, with wind gusts between 30–40 kmph.
Meteorological Affect:
The disturbed weather is due to an east-west trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and adjoining northwest Madhya Pradesh to Bangladesh. This trough runs through northern Madhya Pradesh, northern Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Gangetic West Bengal, up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
In addition, a cyclonic circulation over north Bangladesh and nearby areas between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level is adding to the atmospheric instability.
IMD Advisory:
Residents are strongly advised to:
Stay indoors during thunderstorms.
Avoid taking shelter under trees or near power lines.
Secure loose items like tin sheets, boards, or other lightweight structures that may get blown away.
