Jamshedpur : R.N. Sharma, a retired senior executive of Tata Steel, passed away early this morning at the age of 101.
His last rites were performed at 11 am at the Parvati Ghat in Bistupur.
Sharma was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just a month ago. He was undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital (TMH), but his condition deteriorated significantly last night. The attending doctors advised that he be taken home due to his critical condition. Sadly, he breathed his last early this morning.
Throughout his illustrious career, Sharma held key positions such as Director of BCCL (Bharat Coking Coal Limited), Director of Tinplate Company, and Chairman of the MTMP (Mini Tool Manufacturing Plant). Even after retirement, he remained closely associated with Tata Steel for a long time, serving as a consultant.
Sharma had also served in high-ranking positions within SAIL (Steel Authority of India Limited) and had contributed significantly there. Post-retirement, he continued his association with social and voluntary organizations and had also served as the President of the Cancer Society.
Sources indicate that Sharma had been ill for some time and was receiving treatment at TMH. Just a day prior to his passing, he was brought back home. He passed away peacefully at around 5 am this morning.
