
UditVani, Jamshedpur : A historic and culturally significant moment unfolded on Monday at the sacred Dishom Jaher in Karandih, as President of India Droupadi Murmu graced the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script.
The atmosphere turned festive and reverential the moment the President arrived, with the entire venue reverberating with applause, traditional chants and ceremonial welcome.
Accompanied by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the President formally inaugurated the event marking 100 years of the Ol Chiki script, a cornerstone of Santali language and identity.
The welcome accorded to her on the dais was marked by dignity, emotion and cultural pride.
The programme reflected a powerful blend of tradition and patriotism. President Murmu offered prayers to nature by performing traditional rituals dedicated to Marang Buru and Jaher Ayo, paying homage to the land and its indigenous heritage.
Students of Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ School, Bangurda (Patmada), added grandeur to the occasion through an impressive pipe band performance and a soulful rendition of the national anthem, filling the surroundings with discipline, devotion and national pride.
The President warmly appreciated the students’ performance, acknowledging their talent and cultural expression.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. President Murmu, along with the Governor and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, jointly inaugurated the 22nd Santali ‘Parsi Maha’ and the concluding ceremony of the Ol Chiki script centenary celebrations.
On the occasion, the President also honoured distinguished Santali litterateurs and contributors who have played a pivotal role in enriching, preserving and promoting the Ol Chiki script.
Earlier, as the President’s convoy travelled from Sonari Airport to Bistupur via Jugsalai Station Road, large crowds lined the route, offering a warm and enthusiastic welcome.
The overwhelming public response reflected deep respect, affection and pride associated with the President’s maiden visit to the steel city.
