UditVani, Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur is all set to witness a historic and culturally significant moment on December 29 as President of India Droupadi Murmu arrives in the Steel City on her first official visit since assuming the highest constitutional office of the country.
The visit is being viewed as a landmark occasion, particularly for the tribal heartland of Jharkhand, given the President’s deep cultural connect with the region.
Arrival by Army Chopper, Ceremonial Welcome
President Murmu will first land at Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Airport and then travel to Jamshedpur in an Indian Army helicopter.
She is scheduled to arrive at Sonari Airport at around 10:20 am, where she will be accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
Following the formal reception, the President will proceed by road to her scheduled engagements amid tight security arrangements.
Visit to Sacred Dishom Jaherthan at Karandih
One of the most significant highlights of the visit will be President Murmu’s arrival at the sacred Dishom Jaherthan at Karandih. Dressed in traditional tribal attire, she will offer prayers at the revered site, underscoring the cultural and spiritual importance of the occasion.
At Karandih, the President will also pay floral tributes to Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the revered scholar and visionary who created the Ol Chiki script, a cornerstone of Santhali language and literature.
Distinguished guests from India and abroad will be honoured during the programme.
The Karandih event will mark the grand culmination of the centenary celebrations of the Ol Chiki script, a milestone being observed with great enthusiasm across tribal regions.
Likely To Address in Santhali Language
President Murmu may address the gathering in the Santhali language, a gesture expected to add immense emotional and cultural significance to the programme. If delivered, it would be a rare and powerful acknowledgment of tribal heritage at the national level.
Extensive decoration and beautification work is currently underway at the Dishom Jaherthan to commemorate the centenary celebrations in a befitting manner.
Convocation at NIT Adityapur
Later in the day, President Murmu will attend the convocation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Adityapur, located in the neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
Her presence at the prestigious academic event is expected to inspire graduating students and faculty alike, reinforcing the importance of higher education and innovation.
Elite Forces Take Charge of Security
In view of the President’s high-profile visit, elite special forces have taken complete charge of security arrangements at key locations, including the Dishom Jaherthan at Karandih and the NIT campus, since Friday.
Entry to both venues has been strictly regulated, with access permitted only after thorough verification and prior clearance.
Security agencies, supported by intelligence units and district administration, are maintaining round-the-clock surveillance.
Authorities have described the security setup as a multi-layered arrangement extending from ground to air.
Governor and Chief Minister to Arrive in Advance
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar and Chief Minister Hemant Soren are expected to reach Jamshedpur a day in advance to participate in the programme.
Around 100 distinguished guests from across the country and abroad are scheduled to attend the celebrations.
