Jamshedpur : In a dedicated effort to foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful workplace environment, the Outreach Department of Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) organized an extensive POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace) training program today, May 26.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 300 teaching and non-teaching staff members.
The primary objective of the training was to sensitize employees about the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, and to equip them with knowledge regarding institutional mechanisms for addressing such issues.
The keynote speaker, Barnali Chakraborty, an expert from Yuva Shakti Foundation, conducted an engaging and interactive session. She elaborated on the legal provisions of the POSH Act, shared real-life case studies, and emphasized the importance of fostering a gender-sensitive workplace. Chakraborty also explained in detail the role, processes, and responsibilities of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).
Another insightful session was led by Padma Kumari from Padma Shakti Foundation, who highlighted gender advocacy and community-based interventions. She underscored the significance of awareness, empathy, and institutional accountability in preventing harassment. Her session also covered practical strategies for building a culture of respect, encouraging bystander intervention, and identifying and responding to inappropriate behavior.
The program underscored that POSH training is not merely a statutory requirement but a vital step toward cultivating an informed, empowered, and ethically conscious workforce.
Through such initiatives, MTMC reaffirms its commitment to upholding dignity, equality, and ethical conduct within the workplace.
