Jamshedpur: In a key administrative development, 2018-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Piyush Pandey has officially assumed charge as the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Jamshedpur. He succeeded outgoing SSP Kishore Kaushal, who formally handed over responsibilities during a ceremonial event attended by senior district and police officials.
Pandey was warmly welcomed by officers including the City and Rural SPs, who greeted him with floral bouquets. The ceremony saw the presence of senior police headquarters personnel and several subordinate officers.
“Public Safety and Crime Control Are My Top Priorities”: SSP Piyush Pandey
Addressing the media shortly after taking charge, SSP Piyush Pandey emphasized his commitment to law and order. “This is my second posting in Jamshedpur. Having earlier served as Rural SP here, I’m well-versed with the district’s geography and socio-cultural dynamics. My top priorities will be public safety, maintaining law and order, and effective crime control,” he stated.
Recalling his experience during the 2019 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, Pandey said, “I had the opportunity to work with various departments, administrative officials, social organizations, and the public, ensuring peaceful and fair elections. I look forward to the same level of cooperation now.”
Kishore Kaushal Bids Farewell, Thanks Citizens for Unwavering Support
Outgoing SSP Kishore Kaushal also addressed the media, sharing his experiences and expressing gratitude for the support received during his tenure. “Serving in Jamshedpur has been a memorable chapter of my career. I’m thankful to the police force, administration, civil society, and local organizations—including the Chamber of Commerce and political groups—for their consistent support,” he said.
He especially lauded the role of the public, saying, “The trust of the people is a police officer’s greatest asset. I feel fortunate to have earned that trust and am confident the new SSP will receive the same.”
Clear Roadmap for Future Challenges
SSP Pandey has already begun outlining his action plan, which includes curbing rising crime rates and improving traffic management in the city. He is expected to hold review meetings with officers from all police stations to assess local challenges and resources.
Sources suggest that strategic priorities will include enhanced patrolling, expansion of the CCTV surveillance network, strengthening cybercrime units, and boosting community policing initiatives.
Citizens and Business Community Welcome New SSP
Pandey’s appointment has been met with optimism from both residents and the business community. Known for his effective leadership during his rural tenure, many are hopeful that his return will bring the same discipline and responsiveness to the city’s policing.
Emphasis on Direct Public Engagement
In his vision for inclusive policing, Pandey expressed plans to enhance public engagement. He intends to strengthen the “Jan Sunwai” (public grievance) system and use social media platforms for faster complaint redressal and improved police-public relations.
With his return to Jamshedpur, SSP Piyush Pandey brings not only experience but also a proactive approach, signaling a new chapter for law enforcement and community collaboration in the city.
