UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur FC has confirmed the return of Owen Coyle as head coach on a two-season contract. The UK-born tactician reunites with the club after scripting its most iconic chapter—guiding the Men of Steel to their historic Indian Super League (ISL) League Winners’ Shield in the 2021–22 season.
Coyle’s comeback signals strong ambition from the club. He is fondly remembered for masterminding one of Jamshedpur FC’s most memorable campaigns, topping the league with 43 points from 20 matches. The team scored 43 goals while conceding just 23, capped by a record-breaking seven-match winning streak. Coyle also holds the record for the most wins by any head coach in ISL history for the club.
A familiar figure in Indian football, Coyle has thrived with both Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC. He led Chennaiyin to the ISL final in 2019, then delivered Jamshedpur’s Shield triumph. After a second stint at Chennaiyin that revived them to the 2023–24 playoffs, he parted ways by mutual consent.
Jamshedpur FC CEO Mukul Choudhari welcomed the move: “We’re absolutely delighted to bring back our favourite, Owen Coyle. His role in our Shield-winning season was instrumental, and we’re confident he’ll help us reach greater heights. The entire Jamshedpur FC family is excited.”
Coyle shared his excitement: “I’m delighted to return to Jamshedpur FC, where we achieved special success. The league is growing stronger, but our ambition stays high. We’ll emphasize unity, hard work, and competitiveness ahead of the new ISL season.”
Coyle’s pedigree extends beyond India. In the UK, he led Burnley to Premier League promotion and managed Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic, and Blackburn Rovers. As a player, the prolific striker represented Bolton, Dundee United, and Motherwell, scoring in Bolton’s dramatic 1995 play-off final comeback.
Known for fostering belief, building dressing-room culture, and trusting young talent, Coyle’s high-pressing, direct attacking style promises fresh energy for Jamshedpur FC. With him at the helm, the club now turns to training preparations for another ISL challenge.
