UditVani, Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy rainfall at isolated places over the southern and central parts of the state today, July 8.
Additionally, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 Kmph are likely to affect isolated areas.
The forecast for July 9 and 10 also indicates the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning at scattered locations across the state, pointing to an active monsoon phase in the coming days.
This spell of inclement weather is attributed to a low-pressure area currently positioned over southwest Gangetic West Bengal and its adjoining regions.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level and tilts southwestward with height.
This system is expected to move slowly west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and into north Chhattisgarh over the next two days.
The monsoon trough at mean sea level is also playing a crucial role, currently extending from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan to northeast Bay of Bengal via Sirsa, Meerut, Varanasi, Daltonganj, and Purulia—passing through the centre of the low-pressure zone. In the upper atmosphere (between 3.1 Km and 7.6 Km), a trough runs from south Rajasthan to the cyclonic circulation over southwest Gangetic West Bengal via central Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, and south Jharkhand, tilting southward with height.
Weatherman asked peole to stay alert, especially in vulnerable areas, due to the heightened risk of lightning and heavy rainfall.
Local authorities have been urged to prepare for potential weather-related disruptions.
