UditVani, Jamshedpur: Tata Steel Zoological Park is celebrating a rare and heartening moment as Meghna, the resident tigress, has given birth to two healthy cubs, marking a major milestone for the zoo after a long gap without any tiger births.
The cubs were born during daytime on November 27, 2027. In line with standard zoo protocols and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the mother and her newborns, the development was kept under wraps until the cubs were found to be stable.
Zoo authorities have confirmed that both cubs are doing well and are under round-the-clock monitoring by veterinary and animal care teams.
Meghna, whose name was chosen by the people of Jamshedpur through a public naming contest, was paired with Rudra—the father of the cubs—whose name was also selected by citizens in the same initiative.
Both tigers are of wild origin and were brought to the Tata Steel Zoological Park from the Rescue Centre at Gorewada, Nagpur.
Continuing its tradition of community engagement, the zoo has announced plans to soon launch a public naming contest for the two cubs as well. Winners will be suitably rewarded and acknowledged.
Zoo officials described the births as a moment of immense pride and joy for the entire zoo family, underscoring the park’s sustained commitment to wildlife conservation, ethical animal care, and public participation in conservation efforts.
