UditVani, Jamshedpur: A high-level committee chaired by Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari on Monday approved the proposal of the Home, Jail and Disaster Management Department to establish Mango as a new police subdivision in Jamshedpur.
The Chief Secretary also directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to assess the requirements of all districts for effective maintenance of law and order. “This will provide us with a comprehensive database on the crime graph, trends, available resources, and future requirements of each district, enabling better allocation of resources to curb crimes,” she said.
Currently, East Singhbhum has two police subdivisions—Jamshedpur (Headquarters) and Patamda. However, the increasing population density, vast jurisdiction of Mango and Azadnagar police stations along with Olidih outpost, and the rise in crimes of varied nature had prompted the need for a separate police subdivision.
Home Secretary Vandana Dadel stated that cases of economic offences, narcotics-related crimes, and other criminal activities in Mango required focused policing, hence the necessity of creating a new subdivision.
DGP Anurag Gupta informed that the Mango subdivision would be carved out from the existing Jamshedpur (Headquarters) and Patamda subdivisions by including Mango and Azadnagar police stations and the Olidih outpost.
Finance Secretary Prashant Kumar and Personnel Secretary Praveen Toppo presented their departmental perspectives on the proposal, which was endorsed by the committee.
The meeting, chaired by the Chief Secretary, was also attended by Revenue, Registration and Land Reforms Secretary Chandra Shekhar, Rural Development Secretary K. Srinivasan, and IG Narendra Kumar Singh.
