UditVani, Jamshedpur: Loyola School, Telco witnessed an atmosphere of pride, reflection, and inspiration during the annual visit of the Provincial, Rev. Fr. Jerry Coutinho SJ.
The occasion was marked by a special prayer assembly themed “Break Addiction – Build a Better Future,” delivering a powerful message for students navigating today’s fast-paced, technology-driven world.
The assembly opened with a solemn prayer led by Principal Charanjeet Ohsan, followed by a soulful hymn that set a calm and contemplative tone. Rev. Fr. Jerry Coutinho SJ was accorded a warm welcome by the Loyola fraternity, who expressed heartfelt gratitude for his annual visit -widely regarded as a source of guidance, motivation, and spiritual strength for both students and staff.

In his welcome address, Rector Fr. Mike T. Raj highlighted the significance of the Provincial’s presence, noting that his leadership consistently inspires the institution to pursue not only academic excellence but also strong values, discipline, faith, and social responsibility.
As a token of respect and gratitude, Rev. Fr. Coutinho was presented with a sapling and a greeting card, symbolising growth, hope, and a shared commitment to a better future.
A major highlight of the programme was a thought-provoking student skit titled “Distractions in Student Life.”
The performance sensitively portrayed the growing challenges of excessive screen time, video gaming, junk food consumption, and lack of adequate sleep—habits that gradually turn into addiction and adversely affect health, focus, academic performance, and emotional well-being.
The skit also offered practical solutions, encouraging students to adopt healthy routines, limit screen usage, engage in outdoor activities, and use technology as a tool for learning rather than dependence.
The core message of the assembly was reinforced through a collective awareness appeal, reminding students that addiction does not develop overnight and that mindful choices made today shape tomorrow’s future.
The Thought for the Day aptly summed up the theme:
“Control your habits before your habits begin to control you.”
Addressing the gathering, Rev. Fr. Jerry Coutinho SJ delivered an inspiring and uplifting message, urging students to lead disciplined, balanced, and purpose-driven lives.
He appreciated the meaningful student presentation and acknowledged the teaching and non-teaching staff as the backbone of the institution, recognising their vital role in nurturing the well-being of all stakeholders.
He also reiterated the importance of discipline and conscious living in the modern age.
The programme was attended by administrator Fr. Jerry D’Souza, Coordinator Reshma Rodrigues, Zeenat Maria Sundi, Moderator Colleen Xavier, along with the entire Loyola School community, making the event a truly enriching and memorable experience.
