UditVani, Jamshedpur : Students and teachers of Loyola School, Jamshedpur today gathered at Jesu Bhavan in Mango, for the groundbreaking ceremony of a new Tarumitra Centre — a national student movement dedicated to promoting ecological sensitivity across India.
The ceremony was graced by Father Jerry Cutinha, Provincial of Jamshedpur; Father Michael Thanaraj, Rector of Loyola School; Father Ajit Soren, Superior of Jesu Bhavan; and Father Vinod Fernandes, Principal of Loyola School, Bistupur.

Several other dignitaries, and members of the Loyola Alumni Association were also present on the occasion.
The programme opened with a prayer song, followed by a ceremonial coconut-breaking to invoke blessings, prosperity, and harmony.
In his welcome address, Father Michael Thanaraj highlighted the need to care for “our common home,” reminding all that humanity is not the owner of earth but its caretaker for generations to come.
Father Jerry Cutinha then blessed the ground, offering a short prayer and invoking God’s guidance for all who will contribute to the project.

Reflecting the Ignatian belief that God’s presence is revealed in creation, he said the centre would work “for the greater glory of God — ad majorem Dei gloriam.”
The upcoming Tarumitra Centre will serve as a hub for learning, raising awareness on biodiversity, sustainability, and environmental stewardship among students.
To mark the occasion, 20 saplings of various fruit-bearing trees were planted by students and Fathers present.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Father Vinod Fernandes.
The ceremony marked a significant step forward in the movement’s mission to protect and nurture the environment.
