
Udit Vani Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Shri Hemant Soren today met young chess prodigy Master Adhiraj Mitra, the gold medal winner in the Under-14 Open category at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2025, at his official residence on Kanke Road here.
Adhiraj Mitra, a student of Class 8 at Loyola School, Jamshedpur, called on the Chief Minister in a courtesy meeting. He shared his experiences from the prestigious tournament held in Malaysia from November 7 to 16, 2025, where top young players from various Commonwealth nations competed fiercely. Adhiraj achieved an unbeaten score of 8/9 points to clinch the gold medal, marking a historic achievement for Jharkhand as its first-ever Commonwealth Chess gold in this category.
The Chief Minister congratulated Adhiraj warmly and praised the exceptional talent and passion for sports among Jharkhand’s youth. He highlighted that players from the state have consistently brought laurels by excelling in national and international competitions across various disciplines, thereby enhancing Jharkhand’s reputation on the global stage. Shri Soren extended his best wishes for Adhiraj’s bright future and encouraged him to continue his dedicated efforts.
Present on the occasion were Adhiraj’s mother Runa Mitra, father Uttam Mitra, and his coach Abhishek Das. The family and coach expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the encouragement and called for continued support to nurture young sporting talents in the state.
