
UditVani, Jamshedpur: Three hardened criminals injured in a police encounter in connection with the high-profile Kairav Gandhi kidnapping case were sent to judicial custody on Tuesday after being discharged from hospital.
The accused -Guddu Singh of Madharven village under Islampur police station in Nalanda district, Mohd Imran Alam alias Aamir of Silhari, and Ramij Raza -were undergoing treatment at MGM Hospital for the past five days following gunshot injuries to their legs.
According to police, the encounter took place on the night of January 29 around 2:15 am near bushes along a drain close to the Sai Temple in the Bistupur police station area, during a weapon recovery operation.
While recovering the hidden firearms, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police team.
Senior officers stated that after doctors declared the trio medically fit, they were produced before the court on Tuesday, which ordered their remand to judicial custody.
Police revealed that during the recovery operation, Mohd Imran Alam allegedly snatched the carbine of constable Haripad Mahato and fired six rounds at the police team.
Fortunately, no police personnel were injured. In retaliatory action, police fired five rounds, injuring all three accused in their legs and bringing the situation under control.
Earlier, on January 28, police had already arrested six other criminals after conducting raids in Bihar’s Gaya and Nawada districts. During interrogation, it was disclosed that the weapons used in the kidnapping were concealed near the Sai Temple area in Bistupur, leading to the recovery operation and subsequent encounter.
Police officials further informed that the gang operated in an organized manner, executing kidnappings and planning to extort ransom. Investigations are ongoing to trace two suspected local informers who allegedly provided logistical support and information about Kairav’s movements.
Raids are continuing across several locations in Bihar, and more arrests are likely in the coming days.
