UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Jamshedpur Sporting Association (JSA) has officially announced the postponement of all league matches scheduled for June 20 and 21, owing to persistent inclement weather conditions across the region.
In a statement released on Friday morning, the JSA confirmed that ongoing unfavorable monsoon conditions—marked by continuous rainfall, waterlogging, and slippery field conditions—have rendered it unsafe and impractical to conduct football matches at any of the designated venues.
“The safety of players, officials, and spectators is of utmost importance. Given the current weather scenario, we have decided to defer the matches until conditions improve,” a senior JSA official stated.
The JSA League, known for nurturing local football talent and drawing significant local crowds, sees participation from dozens of clubs across various age and skill categories. The postponement affects matches across all divisions, including Senior, Junior, and School categories.
Impact and Next Steps:
Venue Readiness: Grounds like Gopal Maidan, Armoury Ground, and Tinplate Stadium have witnessed waterlogging and unplayable pitch conditions.
Team Preparations: Clubs had been training rigorously, and the postponement, while necessary, comes as a disruption to team momentum.
Fans & Logistics: Match officials, volunteers, and fans have been advised to await further communication and not to arrive at any grounds on the affected dates.
The JSA has assured that a revised fixture schedule will be issued once a clearer forecast emerges and the grounds are declared fit for play.
Weather Outlook:
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Jamshedpur and surrounding areas through the weekend, driven by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.
Authorities have also issued advisories for local residents to stay alert to waterlogging and flooding risks.
