UditVani, Jamshedpur: Winter conditions intensified across Jharkhand on Monday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi, reported a chilly start to the day with dry weather prevailing throughout the state.
In its realised weather bulletin issued at 10 am, the IMD confirmed that no rainfall was recorded in any district during the past 24 hours.
Minimum temperatures dipped into the low teens at several locations, while colder pockets and higher-altitude regions experienced a sharper bite of winter. The capital Ranchi witnessed a cool morning, with similar conditions reported from Bokaro, Dhanbad, Jamshedpur and adjoining districts.
Gumla emerged as the coldest place in the state, recording the lowest minimum temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius. Daltonganj reported the poorest visibility, plunging to just 300 metres due to dense early morning fog.
Fog was observed in isolated areas, particularly over Ranchi, Gumla, Latehar and parts of the Kolhan division, impacting morning visibility and commute in some regions. Despite these conditions, the weather remained dry across Jharkhand, with rainfall figures marked nil at all observation centres.
According to official data, Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 10.2 degrees Celsius, while Jamshedpur logged 12.4 degrees. Daltonganj recorded a low of 8.7 degrees Celsius, whereas Bokaro and places such as Chaibasa in neighbouring West Singhbhum hovered around 10.5 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists said the prevailing dry weather and falling night temperatures are in line with the typical winter pattern for the season.
Residents can expect cold mornings and chilly nights to continue over the coming days as winter gradually tightens its grip on the state.
