Udit Vani, Jamshedpur : The final day of nominations for the Jharkhand Urban Local Body Elections 2026 turned Jamshedpur into a political hotspot on Wednesday, with unprecedented enthusiasm and show of strength, especially for the Mango Municipal Corporation mayoral race.
From the District Collectorate campus to the Swarnarekha Bhawan on Dimna Road, the scene resembled a full-fledged Assembly election, marked by massive crowds, slogans, music and floral showers.
With Wednesday being the last day to file nominations for the posts of Mayor and Ward Councillors, the administration witnessed a last-hour rush of candidates and supporters.
The sheer scale of participation and public mobilisation gave the civic polls the flavour of a “mini Vidhan Sabha election.”

Sandhya Singh’s Nomination Turns into a Grand NDA Power Show
The political temperature peaked in the afternoon when BJP-backed candidate Sandhya Singh, wife of senior leader Neeraj Singh, filed her nomination for the Mayor’s post.
A sea of supporters accompanied her, making it one of the most prominent showdowns of the day.
Notably, the entire NDA alliance -BJP, JD(U), AJSU and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) -was seen united on one platform. After local MLA Saryu Roy formally declared Sandhya Singh as the NDA’s mayoral candidate, senior leaders and workers from allied parties marched together, shoulder to shoulder.
Amid chants of “Vijay Bhav”, garlands and drumbeats, the Collectorate premises echoed with political fervour, symbolising a clear display of organisational strength.

Dr Vinita Sahay and R Sundi Add New Dimensions to the Contest
The mayoral battle gained further momentum with the entry of renowned physician Dr Vinita Sahay, whose nomination brought the educated and professional class into sharper focus.
Her candidature has transformed the contest into a multi-cornered fight, adding a fresh and issue-based dimension to the race.

Meanwhile, R Sundi also filed his nomination with equal enthusiasm, reinforcing the perception that the Mango mayoral election is no longer limited to traditional political lineages but has expanded to include influential figures from social and professional backgrounds.
Festive Atmosphere, Tight Security
From early morning, the Collectorate campus wore a festive look. Candidates, draped in garlands and flanked by supporters, arrived with bands, drums and slogans, exuding confidence.
Alongside mayoral aspirants, a large number of party-backed and independent candidates also filed nominations for ward councillor posts.
Given the swelling crowds, the administration had to put in extra effort to manage security and maintain order, ensuring the smooth completion of the nomination process.
The Real Battle Begins Now
With nominations now closed, the electoral chessboard in Mango has been firmly set.
On one side, Sudha Gupta (Congress/alliance) will be fighting to retain her political ground, while on the other, NDA’s Sandhya Singh enters the fray with the full backing of the alliance machinery.
All eyes are now on February 5, when scrutiny of nomination papers will take place.
Only after that will it be clear how many contenders will ultimately remain in this high-stakes civic battle, setting the stage for an intense and closely watched urban election in Jamshedpur.
