
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The monsoon continues to remain active over Jharkhand, with thunderstorms and lightning likely to occur at isolated places across the state on Thursday.
The region witnessed widespread rainfall activity over the past 24 hours, with several areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The highest rainfall of 132 mm was recorded at Hunterganj, while many other places reported light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder.
According to Ranchi Meteorological Centre, monsoon conditions were normal over the state during the past two days.
Significantly, Jharkhand has received a total of 611.5 mm rainfall so far since the onset of the monsoon — a surplus of 70% against the normal seasonal average of 359.8 mm for this period.
The latest weather system, a depression over southeast Uttar Pradesh, remained nearly stationary in the past three hours and was centered near 25.2°N latitude and 81.5°E longitude, about 40 Km southwest of Prayagraj and 160 Km east of Khajuraho at 8:30 am on July 17.
The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across south Uttar Pradesh and adjoining north Madhya Pradesh over the next two days.
Additionally, the monsoon trough at mean sea level is currently extending from Bikaner to the northeast Bay of Bengal, passing through Datia, the center of the depression, Dehri, Purulia, and Digha, indicating sustained monsoon activity in the region.
Residents are advised to remain alert, especially in areas prone to lightning strikes and local flooding, as the active monsoon phase continues.
