UditVani,Jamshedpur : In a major breakthrough for security forces, ten armed Maoist operatives active in the dense forests of Kolhan and Saranda have surrendered before Jharkhand Police and CRPF.
The surrender, facilitated under the state government’s Naxal Surrender and Rehabilitation Policy, is being seen as another step toward dismantling the Maoist network in the region.
Turning Point in Kolhan and Saranda
For years, Saranda and its surrounding belts have remained one of the toughest Maoist zones in eastern India. Top leaders of the CPI (Maoist) Eastern Regional Bureau had been directing violent activities, targeting both civilians and security forces.

However, relentless operations by Jharkhand Police, CRPF, Cobra battalion, and Jharkhand Jaguars, coupled with development schemes in tribal villages, have cornered the rebels and weakened their morale.
According to police, over 9,600 operations have been conducted in West Singhbhum district since 2022, crippling Maoist logistics and destroying several hideouts. This sustained pressure created the atmosphere for Thursday’s surrender.
Who Surrendered
The ten cadres who gave up arms were wanted in multiple serious cases, ranging from extortion and arson to armed assaults on police teams.
Among them are Raja Bhuiyan alias Kranti, Gadi Kadi, Janam Danga, Nirmal Singh alias Aaya, Chhote Devram, Gomna Kandi alias Rajaram, Kalu Kandi, Kari Karam alias Gulabi, Santosh Gagrai alias Muru, and Pradeep Singh alias Pudu Singh.
Police said their decision to abandon the path of violence was influenced by the rehabilitation incentives offered by the state government, which include financial aid, housing support, and skill development opportunities.
Police Appeal to Remaining Rebels
Officials hailed the development as a significant blow to Maoist strategy in the Kolhan-Saranda zone.
“The path is open for those still in the forests. This is the right time to surrender, rebuild your lives, and contribute to a peaceful Jharkhand,” a senior police officer said.
The surrendered extremists will now be processed under the rehabilitation scheme, ensuring their reintegration into mainstream society.
