UditVani, Ranchi : Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta has reportedly resigned from his post amid an ongoing dispute over his service extension.
According to multiple reports, Gupta submitted his resignation to the state government late Tuesday evening.
Official confirmation from the government is still awaited.
The move comes after a prolonged tussle between the state and the Centre over Gupta’s continued tenure beyond his superannuation.
The Centre had earlier termed his extension “invalid” and questioned its legality.
A 1990-batch IPS officer, Gupta was appointed as Jharkhand’s regular DGP in February 2025.
His tenure was initially expected to continue until 2027.
If accepted, his resignation will pave the way for a new police chief in Jharkhand, marking another major administrative shift in the state’s security leadership.
