UditVani, Jamshedpur : A piercing winter chill swept across Jharkhand on Tuesday morning as temperatures plunged sharply, with Gumla registering the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a bone-chilling 2.2 degrees Celsius, reaffirming the grip of an intense cold wave over the region.
The IMD’s morning observations reveal that night temperatures across several districts fell well below normal, making early hours particularly harsh for residents.
Gumla remained the coldest pocket, while nearby districts also witnessed severe cooling.
Lohardaga and Koderma recorded minimum temperatures of around 3.9°C, Khunti dipped to 3.7°C, and Hazaribagh hovered close to 3.8°C, highlighting the widespread nature of the cold spell.
In Ranchi, the mercury dropped to 7.2°C, accompanied by early-morning fog that reduced visibility in parts of the city.
Jamshedpur, comparatively milder, still felt the winter bite with a minimum temperature of 9.3°C, slightly below normal for this time of year.
Bokaro recorded 6.7°C, while Daltonganj saw a sharp dip to 4.6°C during the night.
Interestingly, despite the cold nights, daytime temperatures showed notable variation.
Chaibasa emerged as the warmest location during the day, touching 24.8°C, while other districts remained cooler under prevailing winter conditions.
The IMD confirmed cold wave conditions in districts including Gumla, Lohardaga, Khunti, Koderma, Bokaro, Hazaribagh and Chaibasa, and reported foggy conditions in Ranchi, Daltonganj and Deoghar during the early hours.
No rainfall was recorded anywhere in the state over the past 24 hours.
Weather officials have cautioned that the cold wave is likely to persist, especially during night and early morning hours, advising people to take adequate measures to protect themselves from the continuing chill.
