Thunderstorm conditions are expected to intensify, especially in eastern Jharkhand. Stronger gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph, accompanied by lightning, may occur in isolated areas, with storm activity possibly expanding westward.
May 17: Storm Spread Across State
Storm conditions are forecast to spread across much of Jharkhand, excluding the north-western regions. Wind speeds are expected to remain at 40–50 kmph with scattered lightning events.
May 18: Persistent Thunderstorm Activity
The weather pattern is expected to continue with widespread thunderstorm and lightning occurrences at isolated locations, maintaining gusty winds in the range of 40–50 kmph.
Why the Weather is Changing
According to the Meteorological Department, the cause of this atmospheric instability is a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over East Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. This trough runs southward through Jharkhand, Vidarbha, and Telangana, reaching up to North Rayalaseema. Located approximately 0.9 km above mean sea level, it is triggering significant convection and instability over the region.
