Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert for Jharkhand, forecasting a combination of scorching heat and thunderstorms over the next few days. Residents are advised to stay cautious as the state prepares for a series of intense weather events.
On May 14 and 15, isolated pockets in eastern Jharkhand are expected to reel under heat wave conditions, with hot and humid weather particularly affecting Bokaro and Ramgarh districts on May 14.
However, the heat will give way to turbulent weather, as thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are forecast for May 15 in parts of eastern and adjoining central Jharkhand.
Weather conditions are set to intensify further on May 16, with gusty winds picking up speed (40–50 kmph) and thunderstorms affecting isolated locations.
By May 17, most parts of Jharkhand, excluding the north-western region, are likely to experience widespread thunderstorm activity.
These weather fluctuations are being driven by a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, stretching through Chhattisgarh to southern Odisha at about 0.9 km above mean sea level.
The IMD has urged the public to stay hydrated, avoid exposure to direct sunlight, and exercise caution during thunderstorm activity to stay safe during this period of volatile weather.
