UditVani, Jamshedpur : The body of the fourth missing policeman, Satyendra Bhardwaj, was recovered from Dhurwa Dam on Monday morning, bringing a tragic end to the intensive search operation that followed the fatal accident on November 14. Hatiya DSP P.K. Mishra confirmed the recovery, noting that despite extensive efforts on Sunday, the team had been unable to locate him. Early Monday, divers spotted the body in a different section of the dam and retrieved it.
The horrific accident occurred late Friday night when a team of police personnel assigned to the security of the Principal District Judge of Jamshedpur was returning from Ranchi in their duty vehicle. The vehicle suddenly went out of control and plunged into the Dhurwa Dam at high speed. Darkness hampered immediate rescue efforts.
On Saturday morning, local villagers alerted police after noticing the submerged vehicle. A combined team of NDRF, SDRF, and local police then launched a large-scale search operation. Divers recovered the vehicle along with the bodies of three policemen — Upendra Kumar Singh, Robin Kujur, and Anil Singh — who were found trapped inside and had died due to drowning.
The fourth policeman, Satyendra Bhardwaj, was not in the vehicle, prompting officials to believe he might have attempted to escape and was swept away by the water. Search operations continued through Sunday and early Monday, eventually leading to the recovery of his body some distance away.
The tragedy has sent waves of grief through the police department. Senior officials described the incident as profoundly unfortunate and an immense loss for the force, extending heartfelt condolences and support to the families of the four deceased personnel.
