
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Samvaad 2025 commenced with warmth, colour and a deep sense of pride in India’s tribal cultures, marking both the 25th Jharkhand Statehood Day and the 150th birth anniversary of Dharti Aba Birsa Munda.
The inaugural ceremony began with traditional prayers by the Ho, Munda, Santhal and Oraon tribes, followed by the ritual cleansing of the Akhra by the Ho community.
Children from programmes supported by the Tata Steel Foundation, celebrated for their achievements in sports, welcomed tribal elders with reverence, presenting them with Jawa saplings — symbols of growth and continuity. The opening of Samvaad Conclave 2025 was signalled by the resonant rhythms of the Bhner, Sakua and Nagada.
The event was graced by eminent tribal leaders including Baiju Murmu, Desh Pargana (Santhal); Dashmath Hansdah, Torop Pargana (Santhal); Ganesh Pat Pingua, Pir Manki (Ho); and Uttam Singh Sardar, Pradhan (Bhumij). Padma Shri awardees Chami Murmu and Janum Singh Soy, Dr. Narayan Oraon — inventor of Tolong Siki — and Niyaren Herenj, Pahan, were also present. From Tata Steel Foundation, Chairman T. V. Narendran and Director D. B. Sundara Ramam attended the inauguration.

The morning sessions witnessed immersive conversations on tribal culinary traditions, the evolution of cooking practices, and the beginning of the Samvaad Fellowship with reflections on project management within tribal systems and rituals.
Samuday ke Saath opened collective conversations among filmmakers on tribal cinema.
This year, Aatithya — Samvaad’s flagship cuisine experience — features 19 home cooks from 12 tribes, offering authentic tribal dishes at food stalls at Gopal Maidan from 3 pm to 9 pm daily.
Tribal cuisine will also be available on Zomato.
A rich display of Art and Handicraft, showcasing 34 tribal art forms from 18 states and 30 tribes, is spread across 51 outlets at Gopal Maidan, featuring home décor, paintings, textiles, jewellery and more.
Additionally, Tribal healers from 24 tribes across 12 states are presenting traditional healing systems through 30 outlets, with a special focus this year on lifestyle diseases, chiropractic remedies and infertility treatment.
Samvaad 2025 will continue through the week, bringing together tribal communities, artists, healers and changemakers from across India to celebrate, learn and share in a collective cultural experience.
