UditVani, Jamshedpur: Demonstrating extraordinary grit and determination, Jamshedpur homemaker Deepti Khemani has successfully scaled Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest free-standing mountain, bringing pride to her city.
At the age of 53, she accomplished the formidable climb and etched her name among inspiring adventurers who prove that age is no barrier to ambition.
Deepti reached Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro, at an altitude of 5,895 metres above sea level on February 27, at 7:45 am.
In recognition of her achievement, she was awarded an official mountaineering certificate by Tanzania National Parks Authority.
A resident of Circuit House Area and a mother of two, Deepti credits her inspiration to veteran Indian mountaineer Premalata Agarwal, one of the oldest Indian women to summit Mount Everest.
What began as a hobby gradually transformed into a passion, ultimately leading her to set her sights on Kilimanjaro.
Located in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is regarded as one of the world’s most sought-after trekking destinations.
However, its harsh terrain and high altitude demand exceptional physical endurance, mental resilience, and careful acclimatization, making the climb a true test of strength and perseverance.
Reflecting on her journey, Deepti said, “My husband Prakash Khemani, a businessman, my son Ojaswi, daughter-in-law Eva, and my daughter Vidushi have always stood by me. They encouraged me to pursue adventure beyond my role as a homemaker and constantly motivated me to push my limits.”
Her achievement has drawn widespread appreciation from residents and adventure enthusiasts in Jamshedpur.
Many believe her feat serves as a powerful reminder that determination and disciplined preparation can turn even the most ambitious dreams into reality.
Adventure lovers in the city point out that scaling Kilimanjaro is no easy task.
It requires weeks of preparation, rigorous training, and unwavering willpower. Deepti Khemany’s triumph is expected to particularly inspire women and individuals in their middle years to chase their aspirations fearlessly.
Her story stands as a testament to courage, resilience, and the timeless truth that it is never too late to reach new heights.
