Jamshedpur : In a landmark achievement that has made steel city Jamshedpur proud , local golfer Arush Sabharwal has clinched both the Hero Swing Challenge and the Hero Indian Open Pro-Am 2025 title.
The dual victory underscores a rising chapter in Indian amateur golf and places Sabharwal among the country’s most exciting new talents in the sport.
The Hero Indian Open, India’s premier professional golf tournament, is currently being held at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram from March 27 to 30.
As part of the DP World Tour’s Asian Swing, the $2.25 million event is a magnet for global talent and has historically served as a stepping stone for Indian golfers aiming to make their mark internationally.
This year’s edition introduced a significant innovation with the launch of the Hero Swing Challenge—a digital-first competition initiated by Hero MotoCorp, the tournament’s title sponsor.
The challenge invited amateur golfers across the country to submit videos showcasing their most creative or unconventional swings.
Out of hundreds of entries from across India, Sabharwal’s precise and inventive trick shot secured him one of just six coveted spots to compete in the Hero Indian Open Pro-Am, held on March 26.
Sabharwal was paired with fellow Swing Challenge winner Deep Karan Singh of Jaipur, promising Indian amateur Shon Kipgen, and Eugenio López-Chacarra, a professional golfer from Spain who is fast becoming a recognized name on the DP World Tour.
The team displayed remarkable consistency and flair throughout the Pro-Am round, ultimately going on to win the event—a first for any Hero Swing Challenge participant.
The Pro-Am win is particularly significant given the high level of competition. Played on the same championship course that hosts the main event, the Pro-Am traditionally features an elite mix of professionals, industry leaders, and accomplished amateurs.
Sabharwal’s team emerged victorious by combining technical skill with on-course synergy, gaining praise from players and officials alike.
The success of this new format and the visibility it offers to amateurs is a testament to the long-standing vision of Pawan Munjal, Executive Chairman and CEO of Hero MotoCorp.
Under Munjal’s leadership, Hero has become one of the most influential supporters of golf in India and the Asia-Pacific region. His contributions to the sport have earned him accolades such as the Special Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Golf in Asia and induction into the Asia Pacific Golf Hall of Fame.
Through strategic initiatives like the Hero Swing Challenge, Hero MotoCorp continues to create pathways for amateur golfers to engage with the highest levels of the sport. Sabharwal’s success exemplifies the effectiveness of this approach.
The main draw of the Hero Indian Open 2025 continues this week, featuring a strong international field including defending champion Keita Nakajima, past winner Marcel Siem, and Indian stars Shubhankar Sharma, Veer Ahlawat, Manu Gandas, and teenage sensation Kartik Singh. With free entry for spectators across all four days, the tournament promises to deliver world-class golf to fans and aspiring athletes alike.
Sabharwal’s triumph has sparked widespread excitement in Jamshedpur’s sporting community, with many hailing it as a proud moment for the city.
His victory not only highlights individual talent and dedication but also reflects the growing depth and potential of Indian golf beyond the traditional urban hubs.
As the Hero Indian Open moves forward, Arush Sabharwal’s name stands tall—not just as a winner of two prestigious titles, but as an inspiration for a new generation of golfers in India.
