UditVani, Jamshedpur : Ahead of their crucial Indian Super League encounter against East Bengal FC on February 27, Jamshedpur FC struck a confident yet cautious tone, underlining the importance of maintaining defensive solidity while sharpening their attacking edge.
Addressing the media before the team’s departure to Kolkata, the head coach emphasised the razor-thin margins that define the ISL, noting that victories -regardless of scoreline -remain paramount in a short 13-game season.
“It is very difficult to win any game in the ISL. We have taken six points from two matches and have not conceded a single goal. The lads have done a fantastic job. You cannot do more than win your games,” he remarked, adding that while fans may desire emphatic victories, consistency and defensive discipline are equally vital at the highest level of Indian football.
Reflecting on recent performances, he admitted that the team could have created more chances in the previous outing but credited the opposition for their defensive organisation.
He stressed that the squad continues to work diligently in training to improve chance conversion and set-piece efficiency. “We want to score from set-pieces and create more opportunities, but you are always up against well-prepared teams. We remain positive and focused on improving in every aspect,” he said.
Looking ahead to the challenge in Kolkata, the coach acknowledged the stature and history of East Bengal, describing them as a proud club eager to reclaim former glory.
He also referred to his rapport with East Bengal’s head coach Oscar Bruzon, while asserting that friendship would be set aside for 90 minutes as both sides push for victory.
He highlighted the threat posed by East Bengal’s attacking unit, including striker Miguel, and their blend of experienced foreign recruits and Indian talent, warning that Jamshedpur must be at their very best.
Midfielder Pronay Halder echoed the coach’s sentiments, describing East Bengal as an exciting opponent and emphasising the importance of a winning mentality.
“Every match is difficult. If you want to be champions, you must face strong teams. We are focused on ourselves and determined to implement the coach’s plans on the pitch,” he said.
The Men of Steel will travel to Kolkata tomorrow, aiming to extend their winning momentum in what promises to be a fiercely contested encounter.
