UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur FC head coach Owen Coyle has spelled out a clear and ambitious blueprint for the Men of Steel, promising an attacking, high-tempo brand of football as the club begins preparations for the upcoming Indian Super League season under his leadership.
In his first interview since returning to the Steel City, Coyle underlined his commitment to playing football that excites supporters and builds a strong emotional connect with the fans.
“We will be playing, obviously as we want to do, a fast, exciting brand of football- one that’s enjoyable, pleasing on the eye, and ultimately exciting,” he said.
The seasoned tactician heaped praise on the current squad, stressing that entertainment and results must go hand in hand.
“We have young, exciting players- players who can get fans out of their seats. Of course we want to win games, but equally, we want the supporters to enjoy what they’re watching and feel that excitement,” Coyle added.
Acknowledging the expectations surrounding his return, the former ISL Shield-winning coach said pressure is an integral part of the job.
“Expectations always come with football,” he noted.
Coyle also highlighted the importance of home support at the Furnace, a venue he knows well from both sides of the touchline.
“Even when I came here as an opposing coach, the atmosphere at the Furnace was terrific,” he said.
Sending out a heartfelt message to the fans, he added, “Please come along and get behind your team. Especially in difficult moments- that’s when players need supporters the most. We’ll give everything to win football matches for you.”
Reflecting on last season, Coyle credited the work done to stabilise the team after a challenging phase.
“Khalid came in and did a very, very good job,” he said adding that he brought the group together, recruited well, and made the team competitive.
Looking back at his successful stint with Jamshedpur FC during the 2021–22 ISL Shield-winning season, Coyle admitted the memories remain close to his heart, but insisted the focus must be firmly on the future.
“Special moments in football never leave you. But now it’s about creating new memories — through hard work, competitiveness, and by being an entertaining team that fans love to watch, ” he said.
