
UditVani, Jamshedpur : Baharagora police thwarted an attempt to smuggle brown sugar on Monday, arresting four individuals and seizing narcotics along with other items.
Rural SP Rishabh Garg revealed details of the operation during a press conference held here on Tuesday.
Police had received information that a consignment of brown sugar was being moved on motorcycles from the Barsole side.
Acting swiftly, a special team led by Ghatshila SDPO Ajit Kajur set up a raid near Vrindavan Hotel on NH-49.
When signaled to stop, the riders tried to escape but were soon overpowered after a chase.
Those apprehended were identified as Chandan Khatua, Rakesh Kumar Shand, Raja Rajak, and Anshu Mishra.
From them, police recovered a total of 106 pouches of brown sugar weighing 9.380 grams.
The haul included 60 pouches from Khatua, 21 from Rakesh, 12 from Raja, and 13 from Anshu. Two motorcycles, five mobile phones, and Rs 1,550 in cash were also confiscated.
SP Garg confirmed that an FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act at Baharagora Police Station (Case No. 68/2025).
He added that further investigation is on.
The raid team included Baharagora police station in-charge Shankar Prasad Kushwaha, alongwith officers Rahul Kumar, Om Sharan, Shubhkant Jha, Kamal Tidu, Suman Kumar Jyoti, Aftab Alam, and others.
