UditVani, Jamshedpur : A fresh controversy has erupted in Jamshedpur as tensions flared outside the Blinkit outlet in Bistupur.
Locals alleged that store staff misbehaved with a woman who had raised concerns over the persistent parking chaos near the delivery hub.
According to eyewitnesses, the confrontation quickly escalated, drawing a large crowd and resulting in heated exchanges between residents and store employees.
Police teams rushed to the spot and managed to bring the situation under control before it could spiral further.
In the aftermath of the incident, the Bistupur Blinkit’s dark store has reportedly been directed to vacate the premises within 30 days.
The decision comes amid growing resentment in several Jamshedpur localities over traffic congestion and parking issues linked to 10-minute delivery hubs.
Taking note of the rising public anger, district authorities have issued stern warnings to Blinkit and other quick-commerce platforms, instructing them to improve parking facilities and refrain from operating in densely populated residential zones.
Officials confirmed that the administration is now drafting new regulations to govern the location, traffic management, and operating conditions of hyperlocal delivery stores across the city.
The move aims to strike a balance between rapid delivery convenience and public order.
Meanwhile, what began as a minor parking dispute outside a Blinkit store in Sonari has snowballed into a citywide controversy, exposing simmering public anger over the company’s growing urban footprint.
The incident, which escalated into stone-pelting and violent clashes, has prompted the police and district administration to step in amid rising tensions in Sonari and Bistupur.
According to eyewitnesses, the trouble started when a local youth objected to Blinkit delivery vehicles being parked haphazardly outside the store near Baba Kuti Temple.
The narrow street, residents said, had become a constant traffic bottleneck due to delivery bikes blocking the road. When the youth confronted the staff, an argument broke out — quickly turning into a physical altercation.
Within minutes, dozens of local residents gathered at the spot, surrounding the store. The confrontation spiraled as both sides began pelting stones, breaking the store’s glass windows and causing panic in the neighborhood. Police teams rushed to the scene but faced resistance from some agitators.
The Quick Response Team (QRT) was later deployed to restore order and disperse the crowd.
Sonari police confirmed that the situation was eventually brought under control late at night. CCTV footage has been seized to determine how the violence began and who instigated it. “Strict action will be taken against those responsible,” said a senior police officer.
Residents claim that repeated complaints about parking chaos were ignored by the Blinkit management and local police. “We have been asking them to fix the parking mess for months, but no one listened. The delivery bikes block the road all day, causing constant inconvenience,” said one resident.
Blinkit employees, however, alleged that they were unfairly attacked. “We were only doing our jobs when the man started abusing us and got physical,” one delivery executive said.
A few months ago, a similar altercation was reported in Mango, where a delivery worker was assaulted over parking disputes.
The latest unrest underscores a growing tension between convenience-driven e-commerce services and the urban infrastructure struggling to accommodate them.
Residents and civic activists are calling for clear regulations to prevent future conflicts.
For now, police presence remains heightened in Sonari and Bistupur. While calm has been restored, public frustration lingers — with many demanding accountability from both Blinkit’s management and the authorities.
