UditVani, Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has cautioned that thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 30 kmph are likely to lash isolated parts of Jharkhand over the next few days, with the conditions persisting till September 10.
The monsoon trough, which remains active, currently runs through a depression over North Gujarat and adjoining Southwest Rajasthan before extending across Sheopur, Guna, Damoh, Mana, Gopalpur and stretching southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
Meteorologists point to two prominent weather systems fuelling the activity:
An upper-air cyclonic circulation hovering over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh, at altitudes between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above sea level.
Another cyclonic circulation centred over southeast Uttar Pradesh and its adjoining areas at around 1.5 km above sea level.
Despite these systems, monsoon activity remained subdued in Jharkhand over the last 24 hours, with only light to moderate showers recorded in several districts.
Rainfall statistics reveal a mixed picture for the state. While Jharkhand experienced a 37 per cent rainfall deficit in September so far, the overall monsoon tally since June still shows a healthy 22 per cent surplus.
