UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a heartwarming demonstration of honesty and ethical conduct, the employees of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur’s Kolkata Extension Centre have set a remarkable example of integrity by recovering and returning a valuable diamond ring belonging to Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar, Director of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Jamshedpur.
The incident took place during Prof. Sutradhar’s visit to Kolkata last month for official engagements.
He was accommodated at the IIT Kharagpur Kolkata Extension Centre Guest House for two days. After completing his visit and returning to Jamshedpur, he later realized that his diamond ring—an item of immense personal and emotional value, worn continuously for over 22 years—had been left behind in his guest room.
Upon discovering the loss nearly ten days later, Prof. Sutradhar immediately contacted the Guest House In-Charge to report the matter. Responding with exemplary diligence and promptness, the Guest House staff initiated a thorough search of the room and premises.
The incident was also reported to the Director of IIT Kharagpur, Prof. Suman Chakraborty, ensuring complete transparency and accountability in the process.
Fortunately, the room had not been allotted to any other guest since Prof. Sutradhar’s departure. The employees and security personnel conducted a meticulous search, eventually discovering the ring safely tucked away in a corner of the room.
The Guest House In-Charge promptly shared a photograph of the recovered item with Prof. Sutradhar for verification, following which the ring was safely returned to him.
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude, Prof. (Dr.) Goutam Sutradhar lauded the honesty and integrity of the staff, stating:

Prof. Sutradhar also extended his sincere appreciation to Prof. Suman Chakraborty, Director of IIT Kharagpur, for his swift and proactive action, and expressed his desire to felicitate the staff of the Extension Centre for their exemplary conduct.
