UditVani, Ranchi /London : Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren arrived in London late on Wednesday night on an official visit to the United Kingdom, where he received a warm and enthusiastic welcome from Jharkhandi scholars and members of the Indian diaspora.
The reception reflected strong emotional bonds with the homeland, a sentiment the Chief Minister acknowledged by sharing photographs and videos on social media, saying he was deeply moved and overwhelmed by the affection shown.
He expressed his gratitude to all and greeted them with a heartfelt “Johar”.
The London visit follows the Jharkhand government delegation’s participation in the World Economic Forum at Davos, Switzerland, where the state actively engaged with global industry leaders and invited international companies to explore investment opportunities in Jharkhand.
Chief Minister Soren is accompanied by his wife, MLA Kalpana Soren, as part of the official delegation.
A key highlight of the visit will be his lecture on January 23 at the globally renowned Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.
During the address, he will share Jharkhand’s experiences, opportunities, and challenges in pursuing sustainable development in tribal-dominated and resource-rich regions.
The programme will feature an in-depth dialogue on “Sustainable and Green Industrialisation, Responsible Mineral-Based Manufacturing, and Inclusive Investment-Led Development.”
The discussion will include eminent academics such as Professor Alpa Shah, Professor of Social Anthropology and Fellow at All Souls College, and Professor Maya Tudor, Professor of Politics and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government.
At the core of the dialogue will be Jharkhand’s development philosophy, which emphasises harmony with nature as a guiding principle for economic growth.
The state government has been advocating this model as an alternative pathway for development in ecologically sensitive and socially diverse regions.
Hemant Soren will be the first Chief Minister from Jharkhand to deliver a lecture at Oxford University.
Expressing his enthusiasm ahead of the event, he said he looks forward to presenting Jharkhand’s vision of development that balances economic progress with environmental sustainability and social inclusion.
The Jharkhand government believes that this global academic platform will provide a significant opportunity to showcase the state’s development model to the international community and help shape future investment, policy formulation, and sustainable growth initiatives in the state.
