Jamshedpur: A cloud of mystery surrounds the brutal assault of 35-year-old Jyoti Kumari, in-charge of the Ayushmaan Arogya Mandir at Ruhidih under the MGM police station area, after she was attacked by a group of unidentified intruders on Friday morning.
Jyoti sustained severe head injuries after reportedly being struck multiple times with a spade and is currently battling for her life at Tata Main Hospital. She remains unconscious, rendering her unable to provide details about the incident.
The attack allegedly took place around 8:30 am, according to her husband, who filed the initial complaint. He stated that four unknown men stormed the health hub and assaulted his wife.
By the time he arrived at the scene from the upper floor, the attackers had fled, leaving Jyoti in a pool of blood.
However, investigators have expressed doubts about his version of events. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rishabh Garg noted inconsistencies in the husband’s statements and pointed out several red flags:
CCTV cameras at the health facility, which could have captured the incident, were mysteriously turned off since the previous night.
The husband claimed the cameras were shut down due to lightning, though no such weather event was reported.
Neighbours reported seeing no unusual activity around the time of the incident.
Adding to the suspicion is the husband’s personal background. The 55-year-old man, who has two adult sons from a previous marriage, is now under police scrutiny as investigators await Jyoti’s statement to confirm the actual sequence of events.
Jyoti’s younger brother, Prem Prakash, broke down in tears at the hospital, expressing shock and devastation over his sister’s condition. He mentioned that he lives elsewhere and rushed to the hospital after hearing the news.
The police have launched a full investigation into the matter, keeping all angles open, including the possibility of internal foul play.
