Udit Vani Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is bracing for a spell of turbulent weather as thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecast across the state from May 17 to May 20.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts warning of varying wind intensities across different regions during this period.
May 17: Isolated areas may witness thunderstorms and lightning, with wind speeds reaching up to 40–50 kmph.
May 18–19: Weather conditions are expected to intensify, with gusty winds between 50–60 kmph likely across most parts of the state, excluding the northwestern regions.
Northwestern areas will not be entirely spared, as these regions may experience slightly milder gusts of 30–40 kmph along with thunderstorm activity.
May 20: Wind speeds are expected to stabilize slightly, returning to 40–50 kmph in isolated parts of the state.
This surge in atmospheric activity is attributed to a low-level trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh, which stretches across East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and reaches northern Bangladesh.
The system lies at around 0.9 Km above mean sea level, promoting moisture convergence and convective activity, which is creating widespread atmospheric instability.
Public Advisory:
Residents are urged to exercise caution, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning events. Authorities remain on high alert and are prepared to respond to any weather-related emergencies.
