UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a major infrastructural boost to the South Eastern Railway network, the Ministry of Railways has sanctioned the construction of a 10.6-kilometre-long bypass rail line with a rail flyover from Gundabihar end to Chandil station in Jharkhand.
The project, estimated at a cost of Rs 343.97 crore, aims to decongest the saturated single-line section and improve the flow of both passenger and freight traffic.
The proposed bypass line with flyover at Chandil station is designed to eliminate the current delays caused by crossing movements of trains heading from Gundabihar towards Adra via Chandil and Nimdih.
Currently, both UP and DN trains face frequent detentions due to surface crossings in this segment.
The flyover will allow uninterrupted train movement, bypassing existing operational bottlenecks.
Once completed, the project will significantly enhance line capacity, reduce transit time, and improve operational efficiency. It will also provide seamless integration between the Chakradharpur–Adra and Chakradharpur–Ranchi corridors.
Furthermore, it will align with the upcoming 3rd and 4th line projects in the region, supporting the Railways’ broader vision of a robust, future-ready transport infrastructure.
The project underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to capacity expansion, operational safety, and balanced regional development.
