Jamshedpur : In a vibrant showcase of community-driven environmental action, CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (CSIR-NML), Jamshedpur, in partnership with the Tatanagar Railways launched a joint cleanliness and plantation initiative at Tatanagar railway station as part of the ongoing Swachchhata Pakhwada 2025.
Spearheaded by Dr. Sandip Ghosh Chowdhury, Director, CSIR-NML; Abhishek Singhal, Area Manager, Tatanagar; and Dr. Sarmishtha Sagar, Chief Scientist, CSIR-NML, the event saw enthusiastic participation from both NML scientists and railway staff.
Notable contributors from CSIR-NML included Dr. S. Sivaprasad, Dr. Raghuvir Singh, Jay Shankar Sharan, Dr. Sanjay Agarwal, Uday Bhaskar Rao, Viplave Vishal, Bhola Azad, Mrs. Y. Usha, among others.
The initiative featured a comprehensive cleaning drive across station premises, followed by a symbolic plantation ceremony where potted plants were presented to the Area Manager as a green pledge for a sustainable future.
A heartfelt moment of the event was the felicitation of the station’s “Safai Mitras,” honoring their vital role in maintaining public hygiene.
The event is part of CSIR-NML’s wider Swachchhata Pakhwada celebrations, which run from May 1–15. The campaign includes a variety of engagement activities such as a Swachchhata pledge, campus cleaning drives, and competitions like drawing, essay writing, quizzes, and extempore speeches—encouraging active participation across all age groups.
This collaborative effort highlights the power of science, civic awareness, and institutional cooperation in driving sustainable change at the grassroots level.
