UditVani, Jamshedpur : A flood alert has been issued for parts of Jamshedpur and adjoining areas after both the Subernarekha and Kharkai rivers surged past danger levels on Thursday evening.
The alarming rise in water levels follows the opening of two gates each at Odisha’s Bayangbil Dam and Kharkai Dam, releasing a significant volume of water downstream.
According to the latest official data:
🔸 Subernarekha River (at Mango Bridge):
* Danger Level: 121.50 metres
* Current Level: 123.86 metres
🔸 Kharkai River (at Adityapur Bridge):
* Danger Level: 129.00 metres
* Current Level: 134.05 metres
Heavy inflow from upstream areas and continued rainfall in the catchment zones have led to both rivers flowing well above the danger mark.
The administration has placed disaster response teams on alert, while residents in low-lying areas of Mango, Bagbera, Shastrinagar, Kadma, and Adityapur have been asked to remain vigilant.
Officials from the East Singhbhum district administration have advised people to avoid riverbanks, stay updated via official channels, and move to safer locations if necessary. NDRF and Jusco teams have been alerted and kept on standby.
Meanwhile, evacuation plans are being reviewed, and temporary relief shelters have been identified in vulnerable zones as a precautionary measure.
Public Advisory:
✅ Avoid venturing near riverbanks
✅ Keep emergency kits ready
✅ Follow updates from district administration
The situation is being closely monitored, and further updates will be issued as required.
